Make Up For Ever (MUFE) S/S 2013 Technicolor Palette: Review

One of the most exciting launches this season, the Make Up For Ever Technicolor palette offers eight vibrant shades in a variety of matte, satiny and iridescent textures. The coolest of the lot has to be glowing yellow, a limited edition shade in Make Up For Ever for the Spring season.

I’m obsessing over this palette because of the potential number of looks I can create with it. I will go as far as to say that this is the only palette I’d need if I were to be banned from buying eyeshadow from now on. The wide array of colours that consist of wearable neutrals like brown and beige that are great for everyday wear; yellow, green and turquoise that allow you to get creative and allow makeup to become ultra fun; and also black and white, that are great for creating the smokey eyes and for highlighting.

Bobbi Brown Lilac Rose Eye Palette (Limited Edition): Review

Sometimes I feel like I’ve reached an age where wearing too much purple and pink, while cute, is a little too cute for me. If you have the same thought as I do, hey, meet this upcoming collection from Bobbi Brown.

The Bobbi Brown soon-to-launch limited edition Lilac Rose Collection carries the Lilac Rose Eye Palette, which is the obvious star in this collection. It has eight gorgeous colours, intelligently packaged in such a way that the palette remains compact (four colours are “hidden” in a drawer-like feature).

The top layer feature dusty pinks and an ivory highlighting shade, while the lower layer are made up of brown shades. All of them are super flattering and I can imagine them looking good on almost any skin tone.

The colours aren’t the most saturated, but they’re great at bringing a glow to the complexion. The eight shades, while looking good even when used alone, are also complementary to one another, which means you could pretty much do your own mix-and-match without worrying about making a mess. Yes, you can be your own makeup artist!

I’d say that this is a great starter-palette for those who are just beginning to explore the wearing of eyeshadow, or if you’re looking for a great everyday eyeshadow palette that you can wear to work/school and also on your weekend dates.

Here are a few looks I’ve created with the palette. You’d notice that they’re all very natural-looking and subtle. The colours are built to enhance your features instead of hiding them.

YSL Beaute Rouge Volupte Shine: Review

Let’s just say it’s love at first sight. The moment I cast my eyes on the new YSL Rouge Volupte Shine, I knew I was in love. And I haven’t felt like this in the longest time.

Let’s talk about its beautiful packaging first: The sleek, gold exterior, with exquisite cut-out design of the YSL logo at the centre just in front of a coloured strip that indicates the colour of the lipstick.

Opening up the caps. I see glossy bullets peeking out, looking more like gems than lipsticks. In fact, they remind me of the YSL Arty Rings. At this point, I swooned.

But we know looks aren’t going to sustain love. And so I tried the lipsticks on. These are the five I have been sent:

The colours are very vibrant – not quite as intimidating as they look from the bullet but saturated enough. What surprised me more is that it is extremely glossy and moisturising. My experience with bold lipsticks (which I love) so far is that they tend to be a little more drying on the lips. But this one feels almost like a lip balm. It goes on very smoothly, and hardly dries the lips. The pink ones, especially, are very hydrating, while the purple ones can dry out my lips a bit by midday.

The fruity scents that the lipsticks come with also add a nice touch to the overall user experience.

I’ve received a lot of compliments whenever I wear this and I have been carrying two lipsticks (one pink, one purple) around in my work bag everyday, just in case I need to transit to a more glamorous look in the evening, or if I need an extra pop of colour to brighten up my look.

Only complaint about the Rouge Volupte Shine is that it isn’t exactly long-lasting. It cleans off easily, and you need constant reapplication. But if you ask me to choose among colour payoff, hydration and lasting colour, I’d rather sacrifice the lasting portion. Reapplication isn’t that much of a problem. I kind of like whipping out the gorgeous lipstick to do touch-ups anyway!

This is already available at YSL boutiques and retails at S$45 each. There are 19 gorgeous shades for you to choose from.

What’s new: Crabtree & Evelyn Avocado, Olive & Basil Collection

What do avocado, olive and basil have in common? All three are natural ingredients that are known for their moisturising benefits.

Putting the three ingredients togther and you get the latest Crabtree & Evelyn collection. What’s also fantastic about the range is that the scent of avocado, olive, basil, sage and Mediterranean herbs aren’t like your usual sweet or fruity fragrances that men will shy away from.

Think Manhattan streets, and you’ll think of blocks and colours. That’s exactly what inspired Sophie Albou, founder of Paul&Joe’s clothing line. In a bid to let fashion and beauty – in other words, all things women love! – come together, the package print on the Face & Eye Color CS feature fabric prints are seen on the runway for 2011 AW Paul & Joe’s fashion collection. This product comes in three duo-shades and the two shades can be used alone or mixed together to get a look that’s reminiscent of the Manhattan night sky. The product is also enriched with ingredients that prevent skin irritation.

Kate Spade partners Poppy to launch lipstick line, Supercalifragilipstick

I’m a huge Kate Spade fan. Most people know that. But what they didn’t know is that during the General Elections period I stopped bringing anything Kate Spade out because I got laughed at, no thanks to Tin Pei Ling.

Kate Spade always pushes the right buttons. She always knows what I want. That clutch that looks like a book, that sleek sunglasses with stripes, that colourful wicker bag that you saw here. And now she wants to launch a lipstick that’s fashion meets beauty.

Kate Spade announced that she’s teaming up with Poppy King, an Australian entrepreneur who specialises in opaque lipsticks, to launch a range of four lipsticks called Supercalifragilipstick. Yeah, even the name sounds so damn cool. (And easier to pronounce than the name it’s derived from – Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.)

The lipsticks are said to be sheer and very moisturising, enhanced with micro-fine pigments, shea butter, coconut oil and vitamin E – antioxidants!

What’s even more exciting is that Kate Spade will launch cosmetic cases to go with these new lipsticks, and I’m sure they’re going to be ultra cool, given the brand’s wonderful track record with its bags.

Supercalifragilipstick will retail for $24 at Kate Spade stores in the USA starting early September.

I’ve got no news about when it’ll arrive on our shores yet. But hey, I’m really excited! Who’s going to USA soon???

Stila 2011 Fall Collection will arrive in August

Look carefully at the runway trends for Fall 2011, and it’s not hard to identify that the trend points towards pigment-packed eyes and cheeks that still retain a touch of romanticism.

When I received the press release from escentials, which is distributing Stila in Singapore, I was really excited. One of the products that I was hyperventilating over was the eyeshadow palette ($56). Not only because it was encased in a beautiful pink casing (that comes with a quote that says “Believe in the beauty of the future”), the colours are super gorgeous too. All 10 of them have won awards, and my favourites are Sunset (shimmery canyon pink) and Glided Gold (golden brown with shimmer). The palette also comes with an eight-page look book to teach you how to achieve the fall looks as seen on the runway.

Another new product in the collection that got me really excited is the Brighten and Correct concealer ($40). I love products (and people, by the way) that multi-task AND multi-task well, so it’s exciting to know that this product illuminates, brighten and help with concealing. It’s said that the coverage is buildable (love products like that!) and gives a satin luminous finish.

I was also very intrigued by the Self-Adjusting Coral ($40). It is so called because of its ability to react with the skin tone and individual pH to create a customized glow that you can call your own. Amazing, huh?

The rest of the products in the new collection are: two new shades of the cult-favourite Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner ($34), Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color ($30), and new shades in Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner ($38).

The Stila Fall Collection will be available from mid-August 2011 in all escentials stores.

Veld’s Prends-Moi fragrance in Sephora Singapore

What if you don’t have to resist your favourite food, don’t have to work out for hours and don’t need good genes to be slim? You don’t even have to splurge thousands of dollars at slimming centre.

Veld’s Prends-Moi fragrance apparently promises to be a perfume that helps you to slim down! And this product has arrived in our shores at Sephora.

The perfume is said to help induce a sense of well-being and contentment which can help make you curb the urge to snack. The innovation is based on aromatherapeutic and “neurocosmetic” (whatever this means) research. Besides slimming by smelling the scent, the ingredients include caffeine, carnitin, spirulina algae and a substance called betaphroline that are said to be able to reduce fat tissue when you massage the product into your skin.

The scent it said to be aquatic, fruity and floral.As for whether it works, I’m seriously not sure. But what I know is that next time I walk past Sephora, I’m going in for a walk. Or rather, for a sniff. Just in case it works 😉 This retails at $120.

Experience the power of essential oils at Spa Esprit

I received an invite from Spa Esprit to visit them at Dempsey Hill and to find out about the different essential oils and treatments that they have. Unfortunately I fell ill on the day of the event and had to give it a miss. I heard that the other girls had lots of fun concocting their own shower gel 😦

Nonetheless, they sent me three bottles of essential oils and a voucher for a free massage (which I didn’t have time to utilise before the expiry date).

I have tried the tips that are attached to the card that carried the essential oils:

Peppermint – Great as a digestive aid by rubbing it on stomach or add it to water, inhale it to alleviate asthma and nausea and to cool over-heated skin.
Lavender – Use it on feet or pillow to aid sleep, apply to skin to alleviate burns, bruises, ulcer and itches, and to address anxiety.
Lemon – Improve drinking water, take straight or with honey on sore throats, use for colds, coughs, cuts and arthritis, inhale if stressed.

I have added the lemon essential oil to my drink (because I have been coughing for the past week). The taste and scent reminds me of the Honey and Lemon Strepsils. The throat does feel clearer and soothed.

I have also applied lavender essential oil onto the pillow and had a really good rest.

Jimmy Choo’s perfume debut

As Jimmy Choo celebrates its 15th anniversary, they also launched their first ever perfume – Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum. This was in stores at the end of last month.

What I thought was really interesting is that, instead of engaging a high-key Hollywood A-lister to front the campaign, the face of the campaign is none other but Tamara Mellon, the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Jimmy Choo.

Think of Jimmy Choo and you’d probably think of their glamorous stilettos. That’s why the bottle is inspired by the jewel-coloured Ventian murano glass which is reminiscent of the jewels that embellished those pretty Jimmy Choo stilettos that celebrities walked down the red carpet in. The box that carries the bottle is inspired by the python skin shoe in the latest Jimmy Choo collection.

As for the scent, it’s fruity, and with warm, rich and woody depths.
